The room we got (#1) was cozy and quaint. The shower was small but gets the job done. There wasn't any WiFi in the room I was in, but I was told WiFi was strong around the breakfast area. The breakfast was meterocre at best. The bagels and crossiants were doughy and chewy. I enjoyed the juices, teas and coffees offered. The pool was small, but because the bed and breakfast is very small and private, the pool was fine. During our stay, one of the light bulbs went out and we promptly told the main desk. However, they never replaced the light bulb during our stay (3 nights and the light went out the first night). They claimed they sent someone but we doubt them because the only time they came was 5 am (and of course we were asleep and with the deadbolt on). Who comes at 5am to change a lightbulb???? Regardless, this is a great location and it's so close to Duval! We were walking distance to everything. I love how we don't have to listen to Duval's noises despite how close we are to them. This is the sole reason why I am giving this hotel a 4/5 stars. If it weren't for the location, it would have been a 3/5 stars.

I had higher hopes for my experience here. The room was a pretty good rate through hotels.com but for the price I would have expected that the little things would have been done right. The exterior and ground of the property appear to be kept up nicely and the staff I dealt with during my stay were extremely accommodating and friendly. Upon arrival to my room I noticed that there was water all over the floor of the bathroom coming from the base of the toilet. Sort of gross and it was addressed sort of half-ass'd. The toilet was very wobbly about the base and I don't think it was secured correctly. The fix was to simply use caulk around the base, well it still leak slowly throughout our stay. The faucets in the bathroom leaked. The bed was pretty worn out and not to my comfort level. The continental breakfast weak, The coffee was dank and it didn't start until 8 am. The sun deck was very worn and tattered and there is danger of getting a splinter if you aren't careful while walking around up there. the location was great very centrally located and one can get to pretty much anything in downtown Key West in a short walk or bike ride. The front desk staff was friendly and helped arrange a cab for my early morning departure. Would I stay here again not sure if I could find a comparable place near the area.

It seems that previous reviews described my experience and the mediocrity of this place. I will reiterate that is NOT a 4 star establishment. The web site make this place look much nicer than it is. First off, we booked the room through their own website which doesn't allow you to book a king so we got stuck with two queens because there were no king beds available. When we got to our room we were greeted with the stench of dank air. The bed spread had cigarette burns. The bathroom was the size of a all closet. The faucets were older than time and won't shut off completely. I also think that a coach seat on the airlines has more elbow room than the shower. And if you happen to be a TV watcher, it's the size of an iPad. When I brought it to the attention of the staff they certainly sympathized but were unable to do anything with out the manager. So, the manager was gone all week and didn't get to speak to him until my second to last day there. This man could care less about the guests. He made it clear to me that he got his money out of me and had no interest in how I or my wife felt. I don't believe there is any ambition to improve conditions in this place Some good things: Good location and the staff was super nice, aside from the manager. I wouldn't bother complaining if I was in town for a bachelor party and just wanted a place to sleep. However, if your looking for a nice romantic spot I recommend you keep looking elsewhere.

Initially was pretty worried because my confirmation had neither been confirmed nor had they answered the phone or returned my message for 5 days (I left 3). Luckily my friend arrived the day before I did and checked out the place for me and they said I was confirmed. Other than that experience I was pleasantly surprised w the accommodations. Very cute little set up they have. The room is spacious enough and the bed comfortable. One night some folks were on the patio being quite loud and all the noise travels through the walls/doors. The patio area is nice and the only place wifi is available, not in the rooms. I believe the prices were a little high for what accommodations are provided but it appears to be normally priced for the area. Great walking distance to everything. 15 min walk to Duval street for a brisk walker. Would likely stay here again.

Staff was very friendly and helpful. However, the room has a strange smell. AC was very loud. As loud as I cant sleep. ( I am a very good sleeper normally) the worst is, my body was so itchy everytime I stay on the bed and use their blanket. ( I travel sometimes, never have any problems with other hotel's bed and blanket) I am not sure if it is because bed bugs or just some mosquito.

We were late booking so our options near Duval were limited. We were told they only had a full size bed left. Even though the 2 king size bed rooms were not used next to us. The parking was awful. The breakfast is not worth even trying. We found a roach in the bathroom. The only thing that saves this place is the location.

Location Location Location!!! This Hotel is located a block away from the main strip. In two words, "hidden santuary". This property has been cared for with love. It's so quiet with beautiful trees and plants surrounding every direction. Every room has a seperate outdoor entrance. I stayed in room 5. A standard room with my own large front porch, tables and chairs to complete the entrance. Walking in included breath taking high tray ceiling, king bed, granite counter tops and endless charm. Overall a very romantic and cozy. From the rooms to the pool, spotless. Breakfast was great! Standard B&B but so fresh and appealing. As for customer service, very helpful and kind. The young man behind the desk was very welcoming and sincere. He made sure we were happy with our stay:) When I return to key west I will definitly check in here again. Highly recommend for the price the value is a steal.

Did not have a good experience. Our room smelled but was clean. Our friend's room had only one working outlet. The lamp had to be turned on and off by turning the light bulb. The john flushed inadequately or not at all. The staff was not helpful. The breakfast was marginal. The pool had a sign saying not to get the water in your mouth. It was well located. However, under no circumstances would I recommend the Heron House.

I loved staying here. The location was perfect, the price was right. So quiet but still right around the corner from the action. My only complaint was the choppy cable connection. We found a place with cable to watch a specific game but connection kept dropping.

The Heron House was a wonderful choice for our getaway. Behind the wooden gates is an oasis of tranquility. The lush foliage was breathtaking, swaying in the wind.. We spent hours on our balcony, taking in the KW atmosphere of cool breezes and watching the foot traffic go by. It is an ideal location, in the heart of old town KW. The breakfast now includes hot items and during our stay we were treated to: scrambled eggs, French toast, Belgian waffles and fold over omelets. I only mention this because some of the other guests complained about the lack of hot foods. There were still the regular continental items to choose from as well. We never put the TV on, so I cannot comment about the cable connection. For us, vacation equals no TV. It is a time to escape the madness of the world news-the USA Today was enough in the morning to keep us informed. Walk the island, bike, or rent a scooter, the perfect options for exploring the island. If SWA decides to continue service, we will be back again soon.

I found the Heron House absolutely beautiful! Its a completely restored BnB with lots of charm. The rooms have a separate porch entrance with a small wicker table set out front of your door. Some have private porches. The rooms are very unique and the beds, plush. The pool area is serene and great in the heat of the afternoon. The location is perfect..just far enough off Duval. Its a great spot for couples. Its quite romantic. I couldn't rate it higher because of a really big surprise at check in. NO parking for guests! Big hit on the hospitality of the place. We were told by a rather indifferent staff member that we'd have to find street parking. I realize most folks don't drive to KW but after many hours in the car that was not a pleasant thing to discover. Have you ever tried to find parking in that area of Key West?? Its a madhouse...can't even find parking for a scooter, which is why we use bikes to get around..but I digress. We found a spot 5 blocks from the HH. Sweet! Also, the air conditioners were so noisy! They don't call them window rattlers for nothing I guess. I was woken up each night. This was also a complaint I have heard from other guests and Yelpers. Thank goodness it was nice cold air but bring earplugs if you are a light sleeper or haven't had enough to drink on the Duval Crawl to knock you out for the night. The included breakfast wasn't very exciting. Bagels, bread, croissants. Cold hard boiled eggs and danish. The fruit salad offered had brown banana chunks. Nice to have coffee, tea and juice though we still went in search of more appetizing fare. Overall its a very nice place, good value, the historical aspect ,beautifully maintained gardens, pool and location are definitely the best aspects of Heron House.

Location, Service, natural elegance!!! My girlfriend and I spent Friday thru Monday at the Heron House. The location is ideal, close to the action yet far enough away that it feels like you are on a deserted island sitting in your room, the courtyard, the breezeway or by the pool with the lush old growth trees and plants - the fountain/aquarium is an especially nice touch. We stayed in # 10 - it was very large with a private patio and the main entrance connected onto the breezeway - a large bathroom with tub/shower, lots of granite and wood - it was exactly as you would imagine an upscale Key West or Caribbean BnB to be ... perfect. The staff were professional and helpful, their contribution to our experience was impeccable . Although we arrived later than expected after traversing the continent, arrangements were made to make sure that we could get into our room and start our extended weekend getaway on the right foot. Breakfast was great, wine and cheese in the evening was a nice touch. We came and went throughout the day/night with the feeling that we had the whole place to ourselves until we attended the wine and cheese Saturday evening and met a few of the other guests and then again Sunday at breakfast when dozens of people were checking out in the morning. Lots of walking, lots of island history/lore, a little shopping, and many fantastic restaurants and bars close by - really enjoyed the street performers and the sunset. We both travel a lot. Heron House made a good trip GREAT! We will most certainly be back.

The Heron House is a wonderful place to stay in Key West. It is right near duval street yet tucked away and quiet. The tiled pool area is lovely and lush and our room was very comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful as well. The reason I can't give them 5 stars is that our air conditioner was extremely loud, every time it kicked on, it woke us up out of a sound sleep. I have no idea if this is a common problem with all of the rooms but it was in ours. Lastly, while it was great to have breakfast available every morning, a little variety would have been better. They served cereal, bagels and bread with some apples and bananas, coffee and juice every morning. Pretty much a standard continental breakfast. We had stayed at another inn on key west that had a beautiful fresh sliced fruit platter with mango etc, cheese and a few other extras that made it extra special. A fancier breakfast would have made this five stars, but there was nothing wrong with breakfast. Overall, our experience was very nice, and we would recommend our stay to others.

My boyfriend and I spent a long weekend in Key West where we stayed at the Heron House. This place made our trip! It's in a great location - just one block away from Duval Street. But it feels like miles away from the noise! It was great to drop off our bags of souvenirs without taking up time walking across the island. And when the Florida sun is at its hottest, it was wonderful to pop back to our room, change into our bathing suits and take a dip before heading out to dinner. Our room was a poolside room, which is literally poolside. The room was a little small compared to normal hotel rooms, but we weren't planning to sit around in the room anyway. Besides, the Heron House has plenty of poolside seating, as well as a great sundeck, and comfy outdoor couches in a beautiful breezeway. A note to some travellers - our room did not have a tub but only a standup shower. This was clearly stated to us when we booked so we knew what to expect. The door to the bathroom is also a pocket door with wooden slats - not soundproof so it may not be the best thing for those that suffer from "stagefright." But enough about the rooms! The staff at the Heron House are extremely friendly and helpful! When asked, they had plenty of recommendations for dining and activities. Every member of the staff was quick with a smile and hello. The breakfast was great - several types of cereal, toast, danish, coffee, tea, juice. On Saturday, they even had a hot meal of cheese blintzes. We were able to fill up our bellies every morning for our day of sightseeing. From what I saw of breakfast menus around the island, having a breakfast included in your room price is a great value and very convenient. I absolutely loved the Heron House and have already recommended them to several friends and my parents!
